What’s a surprising car fact that a lot of people might not know?

Illustrations commissioned by MINI USA in collaboration with Quora. As many people often Google questions they want the answer to, MINI USA decided to take advantage of this by providing answers on the popular Q&A website, Quora. To accompany an article they had launched on Quora listing facts about MINI, they commissioned me to provide illustrations for it. You can view the article here.

One fact? How about a couple? Where to start? A lot of significant historical people have owned a MINI. Every single Beatle owned a MINI.

Enzo Ferrari thought that the MINI was so fun to drive, that he needed three for himself.

Madonna is often seen zipping around town in her beloved MINI.

Mary Quant, the inventor of the leg-baring mini skirt, liked the MINI so much that she named her very own design invention after it.

The first MINI had an ashtray instead of a radio because a radio was too extravagant.

If that wasn’t enough, the MINI creator, Sir Alec Issigonis specifically designed the MINI doors to have pockets that could hold a bottle of Gordon’s Gin – his favorite brand, so his passengers could thoroughly enjoy the ride.

The MINI is the star of two well-known feature length films: The Italian Job in 1969 and 2003.

In 1999, a panel of 130 automotive journalists voted the MINI “European Car of the Century,” second only to the Ford Model-T.
