36 Days of Type

36 Days of a Type is aproject that invites designers, illustrators and graphic artists to express their particular interpretation of the letters and numbers of our alphabet.

I jumped on at the tail end, illustrating my interpretation of the numbers. To keep a consistent theme, I decided to have each number represent a decade, so 1 for 1920s and 2 for 1920s and so on. I then combined each number with one defining element of that particular decade.

What is your favourite decade?

1 for 1910s. Inspired by ‘Suprematism’ by Kazimir Malevich.

2 for 1920s. Inspired by Art Deco.

3 for 1930s. Inspired by ‘The Persistence of Memory’ by Salvador Dali.

4 for 1940s. Inspired by Film Noir.

5 for 1950s. Inspired by Saul Bass’s title sequence for Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘North By Northwest’.

6 for 1960s. Inspired by Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD).

7 for 1970s. Inspired by ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ by Pink Floyd.

8 for 1980s. Inspired by Memphis Design.

9 for 1990s. Inspired by ‘The Matrix’.
